Artist Cile Downs has been living and painting just a few miles from Duck Creek since 1954, when she and her husband Sheridan Lord moved to Springs from Iowa. Her vibrant works are inspired by the landscape surrounding her home on Accabonac Harbor, and her reverence for nature is palpable in every work. Aside from capturing the landscape with such vitality, Downs went on to preserve it as the founder of the Accabonac Protection Committee, and has been a tremendous force in the protection of our local harbors. Downs is one of many female artists who maintained a vigorous studio practice despite being overshadowed by their male counterparts.
