Creative Memorials Workshop with Brianna L. Hernández
June 1, 2023

The Arts Center at Duck Creek has partnered with OLA of Eastern Long Island and artist Brianna Hernandez Baurichter on a series of Creative Memorial Workshops. This partnership will take place from June 2022 through June 2023, and includes an exhibit by Ms. Hernández at the Arts Center at Duck Creek.

OLA connects the artist to families in the Springs area who have recently or are currently experiencing end of life processes and emotions. One on one time as well as family encounters with the artist provide a safe and engaging space to build connections with our Springs community. This program is part of our 2023 COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM and is funded by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.

Airing of the Quilts
April 22, 2023

The Arts Center at Duck Creek and artist Louise Eastman are pleased to invite you to Airing of the Quilts, community event on the grounds at Duck Creek. This program will take place on Saturday, April 22, from 11am - 5pm, with a rain date on Sunday, April 23.

Airing of the Quilts is a traditional Rite of Spring. For centuries, quilts have been crafted with love to warm our beds, and shield us from the chill of drafty doors and windows. After a long winter of snuggling up, the Spring gives us all a chance to get outside and air our quilts! Quilt-making is a living tradition throughout the world. As a communal activity, quilting provides a space to collaborate creatively, share stories, ideas, and history. It is within this spirit that we invite you to join us in this community project!

READING POETS: The East End Dead Poets Society
September 30, 2023
Hosted by Grace Schulman and Philip Schultz
Organized by Meredith Hasemann

This year, Duck Creek’s Poetry Series READING POETS will present The East End Dead Poets Society. Local writers and their community will celebrate our literary heritage through a community shared poetry reading. Poets will not be reading their own works, but the works of others important to the East End literary scene. Audience will participate with readings of their own.

A panel of local writers, artists, and educators will read the work of poets who have made an impact on our literary scene. Everybody will read the work of another poet who has influenced them in one way or another. The panel will begin the reading, and audience members will be invited to contribute their own readings. The audience need not be poets or artists; community members are encouraged to participate! A packet of local poems will be distributed for those who wish to read, but did not bring a poem to read.

PROJECT MOST, Summer 2023

Each summer Duck Creek partners with Project Most, an enrichment learning center for local children. This season board member Jennifer Cross worked Project Most educator Erin O’ Conner on workshops inspired by Duck Creek’s 2023 exhibitions. Children used drawing and collage to make "zines" in response to the paintings of Misla and sculptures by Louis Brawley. Tara Geer's large-scale works on paper inspired a session on drawing from nature using charcoal, and artist Sara Mejia Kriendler led a workshop making clay pots. Guest artist Meghan Chaskey taught a class in script writing and puppet making with support from the Anna Mirabai Lytton Foundation.

We love working with Project Most! For more information on this organization, please visit their website!
