The Arts Center at Duck Creek is pleased to announce Sally Egbert: Some Years Around the Sun, an exhibition of paintings and sculpture opening on June 29, and on view through Sunday, July 21, 2019. A reception will be held for the artist on Saturday, June 29, from 5-7pm.

Some Years Around the Sun will feature a selection of mixed media paintings, sculpture and collage by artist Sally Egbert. The works in this exhibition span almost a decade and articulate the singular vocabulary this artist has developed in her 40 year career, most of which was spent on the east end.

Titles such as Memory Flowers, Landline, Night Garden and Open Window only begin to allude to the poetry in Egbert’s paintings. Set on a stage of Turner-esque aqueous washes of oil paint, Egbert’s delicate abstractions often allude to nature, and sometimes point directly to it. Horizon lines, interior/exterior spaces and varying depths of field are evoked through the light, line and scale change in each work. Egbert's playful use of collage in the form of fabric, painted paper, and detritus create dynamic formal compositions, while their contrasting textures and figure to ground relationships conjure great tenderness and vulnerability.

Sally Egbert was born in 1958. She has lived and worked in both East Hampton and New York City since 1982. She is the recipient of numerous grants from prestigious organizations such as the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation. Egbert’s work is currently on view in the exhibition Downtown Painting, organized by artist Alex Katz, at Peter Freeman Inc. at 140 Grand Street in New York City.

Exhibition hours are Friday - Sunday, 12-5pm and by appointment.
